AboutHwa Chong Institution (or formerly known as The Chinese High School) had been organizing annual Research and Development Seminar (or R&D Seminar) since 1990 and in recent years, ever since the merger with Hwa Chong Junior College, the merged institution, Hwa Chong Institution has continued with this best practice for her teachers from both sections.
Since 2004, the theme of the annual Research and Development Seminar has focused on the Integrated Programme. The presentations at the seminars showcased the hard work, creativity and intellectual passion of our teachers who have helped to spearhead and enhance the Integrated Programme (IP) over the past years. The overall aim was to understand how our teachers have grappled with the tasks of designing and implementing innovative approaches to pedagogy, curriculum design, student discipline, mentoring, and teacher collaboration for the IP era. In 2010, with the school leaders from both Hwa Chong and Nanyang seeking more opportunities for better collaborations, sharing and learning from each other’s best practices, the idea of extending Hwa Chong’s annual R&D Seminar to Nanyang was borne.
The inaugural Hwa Chong – Nanyang Integrated Programme Education Seminar (HCI-NYGH
IP Ed Seminar) was held on 24 Jan, 2011 and the 2nd seminar was held on 10 Feb, 2012.
